Why Gulf Charters Sailing School ?

Gulf Charters Sailing School has the most experience in Thailand, we also offer a diverse fleet of charter/training yachts, both keelboats and multi-hulls, and sailing school instructors with many years of combined experience. We have been training students in the art of sailing for over 10 years. We take pride in our ability to teach students to sail in a responsible and seamanlike manner, and to impart our own love and appreciation of the sea. Our sailing school graduates are currently sailing yachts on their own all over the world and they carry the valuable lessons learned at Gulf Charters Sailing School with them whether day sailing or circumnavigating.

Gulf Charters Sailing School provides International Yacht Training certification to all who have an interest in yacht sailing, chartering or cruising. We offer four IYT certificate courses: International Crew, International Watchkeeper, International Bareboat Captain and International Yachtmaster-Coastal. Our regularly scheduled 5 day courses can be taken individually or together by enrolling in one of our Value Package programs. While some IYT courses may have the same syllabus headings, it is important to note that with all courses, the "depth of knowledge" increases as one progresses through the various modules.

Our Sailing School also offers exciting milebuilder, delivery and racing opportunities to get you out on the water as often as possible. Together, our students represent a broad range of backgrounds and nationalities which always keeps the learning environment fresh and inspiring; often the relationships formed during the course of the sailing school are lasting ones.

The art and science of sailing covers a vast field of knowledge of which the basics may be shared in only a few well designed courses, but the apt student may take a lifetime to master. At Gulf Charters Sailing School, we endeavor to provide a learning environment, both on and off the water, which promotes interest and develops the skills you will need to make the most of your time at sea. We hope you will join us. We invite you to compare us with other local schools

The Ideal Training Area...

Gulf Charters Sailing School has a world class training facility and sailing area where students can develop and improve their sailing skills. A few miles to the north of our Ocean Marina base lies Laem Chabang, Thailand's primary shipping port which provides real life experience in dealing with ship and tug boat traffic, navigational aids such as buoys and lighthouses, a traffic separation scheme and a bustling commercial harbor. A few miles to the west we have Ko Rin and Ko Phai, uninhabited tropical islands in the Marine park, and a great place to practice traditional navigation methods, anchoring and beach landings aboard the dingy. The clear water around these peaceful islands provides a refreshing swim or snorkel break after a day at sea. Our Ocean Marina base is an ideal location to practice docking and close quarters boat handling techniques.

The Weather Advantage...

The Gulf Charters Sailing School is situated on latitude 12 degrees north which puts it firmly in the Monsoon wind belt and as a result we are blessed with excellent sailing winds more than 300 days of the year. As you will see from the satellite photo as you go south towards the equator on the latitude of Koh Samui or Phuket you leave the Monsoon wind and enter the Doldrums belt meeting cloud and unpredictable or very light winds. In the NE Monsoon from November to March the seas at Ocean Marina are flat under the lee of the mainland of Thailand. In the SW Monsoon, from May till September, the occasional rain squall provides real life training in high winds and low visibility.

The Onshore facilities...

The Gulf Charters Sailing School is based at Ocean Marina, Ban Ampur, Chonburi, Thailand, a world class yachting center located 1.5 hours south of Bangkok and the International Airport. Ocean Marina is home to over 200 yachts, maintenance services, boat builders, charter services, yacht brokers, retail equipment sales and more. Our classrooms are located in the Ocean Tower in the Skipper’s Lounge which provides a nautical learning environment complete with Maritime library and a large selection of model sailing craft which are used as training aids. Most students stay on site in the convenient Ocean Bungalows. The Ban Ampur area is well know for its variety of seafood and other restaurants, many within walking distance. The entertainment center of Thailand, world famous Pattaya City, is a 15 minute taxi ride away and offers sailing school students a chance to experience a taste of the local nightlife during breaks in the sailing program.

The Instructors...
